I meditate. There are different types, silent, mantra (speaking syllables because there is supposed to be "power" and activation of certain centers in the brain due to this), energy meditation, breath control (pranayama), mindful, zen, etc.
Then there is yoga dealing with postures.
But basically I just do corpse pose meditation when I'm trying to fall asleep/can't fall asleep or am too lazy to sit up in a regular cross-legged position. Corpse pose is good for astral projection/lucid dreaming too.
To meditate correctly is based on your own will and your own development, there really is no way of meditating "correctly" because meditation is more of a state of mind which you're trying to achieve.
How it's supposed to make you feel, well, it makes you feel great, and has many health benefits, it makes you realize the falseness of this material world, it makes you realize the world of names and words is nonexistant, it makes you realize all the matter is just one force, makes you realize your inner voices and origins of thoughts, makes you realize your subconscious speaking to you (which is something you need to experience by shutting off your useless random thoughts).
It has great health, spiritual, mental benefits. It makes you realize the power of the mind and how mind controls matter and all the matter around you. It makes you realize everything you've been taught is a lie, it makes you feel "high", gives you peace of mind, gives you control over your life...makes you control your own reality.
Basically, you should just experiment with what type you like the most and stick to it and be regular with it. Being consistent with this is the key, if you become consistent a world of opportunity will open up for you.
Shit man, meditation makes me realize a lot, makes me realize that all these religions, new age psychic people, are all false. It makes you realize a lot. Give it a try and liberate your mind from this material projection.
Meditation is a way of thinking, a way of living with a certain thought process.
Anyway tl;dr. but it's definitely worth pursuing and I highly encourage everybody here to give it a try.
e: hallucinations occur when you go deeper into trance and see "sacred geometry" and hit a hypnagogic brainwave/REM state of mind.
Personally I have never read about, practiced, nor plan on practicing meditation.
However, after reading your essay, I must point out several interesting aspects.
First off, even if you are able to excite your neurotransmitter receptors with meditation, you have to understand the synapses can only sustain a certain amount of interactions, and if you "artificially" increase the count (be it through drugs or meditation), the synapses will become over-regulated and will cease to function at their maximum potential for a certain period of time (based on how many extra stimulis they encountered).
That's actually the ONLY reason why there is a down-period after drugs & alcohol, and why people can't just take drugs 24/7 in order to be happy forever.
The second thing I wanted to mention is much more interesting:
Directly interacting with your full subconscious is both extremely difficult & mentally scarring to an unbelievable extent. One's shadow aspect is all the darkest & most depraved thoughts that you can possibly imagine, and many that you can't even begin to fathom. To consciously bring into existence, into the material world (from your own perspective), your shadow aspect and then to interact with it... Well, that's the kind of shit that gets people permanently locked up in the psyche wards, just from one single interaction.
