What's the catabolic gradient?

in layman terms, the body's 'balance' between the decomposition of muscle mass, and recomposition. building and disassembling. both processes exist all the time, generally being associated with testosterone being the main hormone for anabolic purposes, and cortisol, glucagon and adrenaline for catabolic purposes.

as you deficit, the gradient of those hormones exceed that of the testosterone. that's why str training is best while deficiting as to maximize test production and "maintain the balance", or at least minimize the gap.

bear with my bad use of brain for a now yo...

Why would you deficit while strength training? Is it something you'd do even if you're not cutting?

he's strength training while in deficit to increase testosterone which "counteracts" the catabolic (muscle-breaking, essentially) hormones such as adrenaline, cortisol and glucagon, minimising muscle and strength loss

the 2nd reason is that low rep range has very minimal microtears which occur in high rep hypertrophy, and those tears need a caloric surplus to be attended to properly. since deficiting doesn't leave much room for muscle tear repair procedures, a hypertrophy routine is not recommended during cutting phases as it increases the catabolic gradient from having needed to repair those microtears with literally no macronutrients available, hence the body breaks down even more muscle mass in order to restore the very muscle that was torn during the workouts.

Oh, that's critical... my routine is in the 10-12 rep range...

So I shouldn't caloric deficit at this time?
