It really sucks. The only thing I'm good at is drinking water. Cut out soda/soft drinks/juice/etc completely and replaced it with 4-5 litres of water a day (1 gallon = 3.5 L or something) so that's helped a lot as I calculated that I consumed 1250 calories of ice-tea and juice in the military...
other than that I try to keep my kcal intake under 2800 on a daily basis but then I get forced to go out on social events every weekend which ends up with e.g. 12 beers or loads of red bull vodka, not to mention kebabs/burgers whatever junk food I consume while drunk

That's how I am, with me being in college it's pretty much impossible to stay away from drinking while still maintaining a social life. I don't mind it anyways, I'm young might as well live it up while I can.
