No, Protein is broken down into component amino acids in the body, these can be used to create muscle, and they can also be used to create glucose during gluconeogenesis. Glucose is turned into triglycerides which can be used for energy, or stored in the fat tissue of your body in the presence of insulin.

There is such a thing as "too much" protein.

Gaining weight is due to excess calories.

for gaining mass you want to be doing at least a 4 day split, look at the sticky and go with either of the 4 day splits or a 5 day split
you do not want to be doing all of upper body in one day, normally it is 2 muscle groups per day with a day or two off per week
Also you need to make sure you are working hard enough for the amount of protein you take to actually be used
Right now and for the whole summer I have been on a strictly Lean protein, vegetable, fruit, nuts, and wheat diet pretty much, no butter, only a tablespoon or so of olive oil a day, pretty much no fat outside of that and nuts
I do cardio 2 times a week pretty intense, and workout a lot, and let me tell you I have gained a little more fat than I would like basically lost my 6 pack, my gut started poking out(not yet past my pecks) and all around a little more flabby, but also put on a lot of good muscle weight
but yeah deff you can gain fat from too much protein
