as a sprinter, you can become regionally famous by winning some local competitions etc.
Well, just don't get too tangled up with it, or make it a lifestyle,because it'll be unlikely to pay off.
Olimpic coaches almost always have higher studies. With bodybuilding, on th other hand, you can usually get by if you have won/get classified in some competitions.
Of course I'm looking at this from a practical point of view. If they are simply a hobby and you have your own means through a different job, then pursue the one you like most.
What I wouldn't pay much attention to, though, is what other people think. If you truly prefer sprinting then go for it, but don't do it because people like it better.
