Hey there -

Great question.

First of all, in order for your body to use something other than carbs as the primary source of energy, ketones need to be present. In order for ketones to be present, the body must have depleted all stored glycogen. At this point, the body enters ketosis, which converts fat into energy by using ketones.

The only way to achieve this is to virtually eliminate all carbs, except for NO MORE than 20g of fibrous carbs per day (green veggies), and continue aggressively exercising. After around 7-14 days, you will be in full ketosis.

From that point, you need to cycle approximately 7-10 days with NO carbs, followed up by ONE day of all carbs. This is referred to as the cyclical ketosis diet, or CKD, or anabolic cutting diet.

I personally prefer shredded latex or memory foam. However, regardless of the pillow internals, please do yourself a favor and buy a good pillow encasement (try amazon). A pillow encasement will protect you from dust mites, allergens, and VOCs, which are all prevalent in memory foam pillows (mostly), but other pillows as well.

do i use pillow sheets on top of pillow encasements? or not at all? if the latter, how often do i wash the encasements?

Having sleep issues. currently take gaba before bed if i am getting between 4-6 hours of sleep. Although most night i do try to get at least 7. Ive been waking up consistently throughout the night, and when i do sleep without waking up, I am still exhausted. IVe had sleep issues for a long time, but have never cared enough up until now to do somethin about it.

Any recommendations? Not sure if its somethin i can improve myself, but do you also suggest seeing a physician about it?

Any alternatives to kneeling cable crunches? The gym I go to has a lot of people and I would prefer not get any funny looks from them considering I'm just a beginner

Look into ELF brand. You can't have TRUE dustmite and VOC protection from cotton, which is fully breathable. You need something lined with polyurethane or similar.

True encasements never have to be washed, but it would be recommended to wipe them down every few weeks or so.

Sleep Guide

In addition, you want to make sure you keep a proper sleep rhythm, meaning - always sleep the same hours every night, or close to it. (IE: sleep by 11pm, away by 7am) and so forth. If you continuously switch it up, you will prevent your body from getting restful sleep.

Try a white noise machine or air purifier, something that emits a humming noise that filters out other noises which will help you sleep.

Try a blackout window curtain so that light does not enter your room. This also will help you sleep longer and better.

Keep the room colder, 68-70 degrees is great for sleeping. The hotter the room, the harder it is to sleep.
