Getting some back pains from lifting heavy again though, going to start cutting.

Increasing reps to around 20/decreasing weights significantly/caloric deficit/moar cardio.

Bro stick with 5-9 reps for cutting.

you aren't gonna gain any muscle, and I've personally found that to be the best rep range to maintain the most strength and size

I'd shoot for 7 reps, keep your workouts constant, and slight caloric deficit. You'll become pony boy status if ya nahmsayin

The reason I have to switch to high reps isn't bro-science, it's that I need to lower the weight to avoid further injury to my back. If I lower the weight in my normal sets, I obviously have to increase the reps, how else am I gonna achieve any kind of hypertrophy?

What do you expect me to do, lower the weight and do 9 reps whereas I used to do 10-12 reps of much heavier weights?

I still need to expend my muscles somehow, but avoiding further strain. This isn't permanent, last time it took about 3 weeks to heal, and it'll probably go faster this time. But for the time being, I do know what I'm doing.

Workouts that don't involve the back?? and work on your form.

There shouldn't be back issues if you're using solid form.

but I gotcha, do take it easy and heal up

Why in the world would you do 20 rep sets during a cut? Or ever really...
