Hi raynor.

Suffered some head trauma today. Riding a skateboard, fell and hit my head. Caused a concussion. Not bad, but enough to cause some amnesia surrounding the event. CT came back clean.

When do you think I can lift? I guess the concern is inter-cranial pressure, so wouldn't I be ok doing lighter/hypertrophy type stuff in the meantime. Like anything that doesn't require a valsalva maneuver

In the event of a concussion, I would avoid ANY vigorous exercise for at least 1 week to allow your body a chance to recover without any stress. Take a week off, enjoy the relaxation and come back strong next week.

So short story shorter:

I'm a guy, around 5 foot 7 inches, fairly skinny. Except in my butt. All other workout forums and such say you have to do cardio overall to lose fat everywhere, which will very very slowly lose butt fat. But I'm already fairly skinny, and I'll just be scrawny if I get any skinnier. Also, people say you can't lose butt fat without gaining muscle there. Are there any ways you know that can help with my situation? Thank you!

Assuming that you are pear-shaped and tend to keep most of your fat in the lower portion of your body, particularly the glutes and hips, you will need to lose fat all-over, as previously mentioned, but then ultimately change your diet and workout routine to prevent the fat from returning.

Another solution, if you have an ABNORMAL amount of fat deposited in your glutes, there may be an estrogen issue at hand. Have you had a complete blood test done, including test/est levels?

was going to start the cutting routine today, but i was unsure about one thing. obviously you rest between your warm up set and the 80% set. id guess around a minute. but what im unsure about is if there is rest between each drop set thereafter. i assume no, but then i realized that would only mean im doing one total set for each exercise. it just that one set would be like a 4x drop set to failure.

thanks

Hello -

I believe you must have missed it in the guide:

"Take no more than 12-15 seconds rest between sets"

Haven't seen much info about this but... if you're on a ketogenic diet for a while.. and you want to start eating a bit more carbs... can your body switch again to carb burning or has your long ketogenic diet influenced it, with now you will store those carbs instead.?

The body will INSTANTLY switch back into using glycogen as energy.

someone just created a topic about kidney stones, so i gotta ask. does taking in too much calcium increase the risk of kidney stones?

i checked wiki, which said supplements can increase risk but if you take it from food it actually decreases risk? if that's true, what about food that adds calcium to it artificially like unsweet almond milk?

Too much calcium and sodium WITHOUT sufficient water will indeed increase your risk of kidney stones. The easiest way to prevent this is with a complete balance of sodium/potassium/magnesium/calcium, and of course, PLENTY of water. No less than 1 gal per day. As far as electrolyte levels, 1x sodium, 2x potassium, 1x calcium, 1x magnesium. You want to keep the total sodium to no more than 3,000mg per day, and thus potassium 6K max, and mag/calc also 3K max. Also take Vitamin C, Vitamin D-3, and Lysine to further absorb the calcium. You need at least 1g of vitamin C, 3,000iu of vitamin d, and 1g-2g of supplemental lysine.

EDIT:

genetic predisposition to kidney stones is also a concern, but can be fought off with the above practices.

I want to start using Krea-bolic (Creatine) and 100% Whey Gold (Protein powder)

Ever heard of it? and is it good?

Yes I have heard of both and know much of both.

I would highly recommend you stick to Optimum Nutrition Micronized Creatine Monohydrate (synthesized by Creapure), and Optimum Nutrition Natural (either pro complex or gold standard), OR NOW! Whey protein.

The problem I have with regular gold standard is the artificials they add to it.

With regard to the creatine, it's OK, but not optimal.

Yo raynor

Whats the best way to cut up your arms?

Mine are all muscle, not really any fat, they're just not that defined

Is it still a bodyfat % thing even though my arms don't seem to have any fat? Or is it a lifting style thing, and if so, what types of exercises/rep ranges/weights are best?

It's definitely a body fat % issue.

You may not feel much fat in your arms, but consider a well-marbled steak. There is fat interspersed throughout the tissue, preventing you from having the chiseled appearance you desire. The solution, of course, is to lower the body fat overall, and your arms will in turn become the way you want them.

Yes too much calcium can give you stones.. however not as black and white.... you need magnesium, vit D and some small extent phosporus and Vit C to best absorb Calcium.. they work synergystically.
If you keep having calcium ( too much ) without having something to help absorb it.. it can get deposited in joints and without enough water can get concentrated crystals in the kidneys.
