any advice for how to study in a biology course?
I've taken 3 years of math/engineering courses and do fine but I really struggle with biology for whatever reason. And it's just an intro microbiology course
The best methods for studying something you do not find interesting are as follows:
1. Mnemonics - Basically, come up with a rhyming word or acronym for certain terminology to help you remember what it means. IE: ***Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species*** = Do Kings prefer cake or frosting, generally speaking?
2. Take written notes WHILE you study
3. Take frequent breaks, but study often. IE: Study for 30 minutes, take a 5-10 minute break, repeat.
4. Look at pictures of what you are doing and associate a visual with the word. IE: for a cell, look at a picture of a cell with the word on the same picture. Your brain will adapt much faster with this.
