Hey there.

There are two ways to go about this. If training for JUST bodyweight pullups and pushups, and assuming a gym IS available....they will need to be doing lat pulldowns, chest presses, DB presses, cable rows, bicep curls, and tricep pulldowns.

If those are not available....then you will have her do pushups (until failure) for at least 5 sets, 2x per day, 3-4 days per week. For pullups, she should be doing assisted pullups for 5 sets, 2x per day, 3-4 days per week with either a spotter assisting, or with bands.

Would a strength training approach be more efficient to achieve this, or a body building approach?

A cut should last as long as it takes to achieve your fat loss goal. Usually they last 3-4 months.

As far as weight goes, you will not be gaining lean mass on a cut, so just go by total lbs.

Well the key to doing MORE bodyweight reps is definitely a bit of both. Muscular endurance and of course, muscular strength. For her, I would focus on strength training first to build a platform.

I injured my shoulder today, it feels bad! Do you have any tips to recover? Also I have a chest workout tomorrow. If it still feels bad should I still bench?

Thanks

I did, and I'm sorry about that.

I need to know what kind of injury! However, in general the best method to use is the following:

1. Ice for 20 mins on, 40 mins off, 4x per day.
2. Keep the shoulder elevated above your heart, even when you sleep.
3. Take ibuprofen as necessary to reduce inflammation (usually no more than 2x per day).
4. Drink lots of water, somewhere in the area of 1.25 gals per day.
5. Get plenty of sleep for recovery (at least 8 hrs a night)
6. Keep the area mobile, but not overstretched or strained. This means, keep the shoulder moving like you normally would, but no exercise with it, no weight bearing with it, and certainly no long or deep stretches with it.

DO NOT WORKOUT WITH AN INJURED SHOULDER. YOU NEED TO TAKE AT LEAST 2-3 DAYS OFF (possibly much more) DEPENDING ON THE INJURY.

Hello, I am going to start a serious cut, and I was wondering what kind of macros you would suggest for it! Some info about myself:

Height: 6'2"
Weight: 205 lbs
Age: 19
BF %: estimate 16-20%, handheld machine put me at 15% which I felt was too low, and my calipers generally get me around 18%.

I was thinking of cutting down to 185, so any extra input would be quite appreciated!

Its been all about me. I would appreciate it if you could answer a question for my cancer surviving mother :)

50 Years old
5'7"
160lbs
30% bf guess based on some dumb digital scale

She just conquered breast cancer and wants to lose all this weight! She signed up for a half marathon in October and needs to train properly for that. She used to run marathons so knows how to do it. Her back has had a few cortisone injections and her knees arent what they used to be but she is driven.

Her current workout consists of this:
100 crunches 6 days a week
25 push ups
20 minutes on the elliptical

Our family eats very healthy for the most part. I am on some of your diets to give you an idea :)
She uses my fitness pal to keep track of cal intake but is not sure of cal output. I told her that her current workout is probably only maintaining at best (as a guess).
She has been doing this for 5-6 weeks and has not lost a pound.
She is a chef and can whip up anything she needs. So in case theres just recipes somewhere that are good ideas so you dont have to type out 1001 things :)

She takes:
2000 mg fish oil
Vitamin E generic size pill (1-2)
Centrum Silver for women over 50
And its important to note that she takes Tamoxifin as a result of the breast cancer. It acts as an estrogen and progesterone blocker. She has to continue taking this. The doctor, who is not a nutritionist said you could eat crackers and water and gain weight with this. Not sure to the validity of that.

We would very much appreciate it if you could whip up a sure fire weight loss/half marathon training and or diet program for a 50 year old woman trying to get it back.

Thank you! Thank you!

what i mean is right now im 175 lbs. i think im at around 17-18% body fat, and i wanna get to around 12. so if i was to take 6% off to get to 11-12%, i would need to lose approximately 10 lbs-11 lbs (175x.06 = 10.5) to get to a weight of 165ish. so i shouldnt use 165 as my bmr? i should use 175?
