I'm having a hard time finding stevia-based brown sugar for baking. I found something online which uses xylitol, which you recommended a few years ago. I noticed that you haven't mentioned it in quite a while. has some new research come out to suggest xylitol is bad?

http://www.amazon.com/Ideal-Brown-No-Calorie-Sweetener/dp/B003WKJW5Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338325157&sr=8-1

Looks like theres 202 calories and 53 grams of carbs for a cup

Splenda - heres the deal.

It's actually selectively chlorinated table sugar...

this means you are basically eating sugar that has chlorine atoms added and 3 hydroxyl groups removed.

The verdict? You are consuming small amounts of chlorine.

I would not advise eating splenda for this reason. There are also no health benefits....Xylitol has plenty..and stevia is showing some promise as well.

Steer clear of sucralose (splenda), aspartame (sweet and low), and other artificial sugars.

edit: Once in a while won't hurt, but don't abuse artificial sugar.

Hey Raynor a couple of things:

1) How many carbs does it take to break ketosis?
2) Instead of a carb up day as you suggested, can I just have a cheat meal with a lot of carbs and eat keto the rest of the day? (within caloric means)
3) On your keto cutting workout (6 days/week), how many sets should I do per muscle each workout?
4) What are you lifting nowadays? And what weight are you at? Curious

Thanks!

1. It depends. usually in the area of 25-30g for a 170 lb individual. However this varies. Sugar carbs also have more impact.
2. No. You need to carb up properly to replenish glycogen. Follow the plan to its entirety for maximum results.
3. If you follow the exact workout, it explains it. It says 5 sets per exercise, and usually there are 3-4 exercises per muscle group.
4. I lift for pure maintenance right now. I rarely do 1-2 RM on any exercises. I'm hovering at the 175-180 lb mark right now. In regard to strength, I'm sure I would not be able to bench 455 tomorrow if I tried. However, give me a few weeks of 1-2 RM training and I would.

Your response was so great, that I am considering them now lol

Honestly, you likening it to protein drinks was about as good as it gets.
"oh you take protein? Why not a little pill to cover the rest (except fiber)?
I get it.

What's the difference between the 2 a day NOW! That you are referring and a 1 a day like "the one that starts with a C I think"

As you know, a one a day makes it more manageable as a patient ;) haha

Well anything that's ONE a day is either a horse pill (there really isn't anything big enough to contain everything you need in one day that you can still swallow), or it's split into two large pills (such as the NOW! adam).

The easy way to remember to take the pills is to leave them in an area that you see them all the time. Just pop 1x with a meal twice a day.

if you can answer this before tomorrow, this would be awesome:

how is NOW! Adam  different in capsule versus soft gel?

which do you recommend?

The regular hard pills are the best in terms of micros per pill.

The soft gels are mostly for people who have a hard time swallowing the hard ones.

Would taking a "premium performance multi" from Costco be sufficient? I think it
Might be a bit cheaper?

No lol.

Most vitamins such as Centrum and Store Brands are very low quality and have very low digestability. Furthermore, the micronutrient guarantee on the product simply does not exist except for FDA labeling. NOW! Products are relatively inexpensive and tend to offer a much better deal in terms of nutrients per gram/capsule - as well as tried and true testing and quality.

When doing squats I am noticing a bit of griding in my right knee. After a workout my knees feel hot, is that normal? I don't have any real pain in either knee but the day after a workout they are a bit stiff.  I've only started doing squats in the last month. Is it just that they are not used to the stress?

Yes and No.

First of all, I'd like you to ice your knees for 20-30 mins after leg day.

Secondly, I want you to wrap your knees with some good quality leg wraps prior to doing legs.

Thirdly, I'd like you to take joint support products. Try Universal Animal Flex. Take it every day.

I only stopped recommending xylitol because it actually has calories. Also, I prefer the flavor of stevia. However Xylitol is also a good product with respect to what it does.

In regard to that product you showed me - I'd avoid it. They add sucralose to it. Even a small amount, but still - I wouldn't waste my time.

As far as a stevia for brown sugar equivalent...did you try Stevia in the Raw?

I used to eat a relatively large amount of splenda (100-200 packets) on a daily basis for around 2 years :-| i cut down and I now use stevia about a year ago, though. I have the feeling a research lab somewhere is interested in me as a lab rat haha.

I'm actually using Stevia in the Raw as my normal-sugar replacement in baking. I don't know enough about baking to know if I can replace the brown sugar with it too O.o

Did you say 100-200 PACKETS A DAY? How is that even possible?? 1 Packet sweetens 12-20 oz of water. That's very dangerous amounts of sucralose.

I think stevia in the raw can replace brown sugar, it's worth a try.
