Raynot I have a question about deadlifts.
I'd consider myself an intermediate deadlifter with good form, and DL about 3x a week. However I did something extremely retarded the past month, I got a bit lazy and only started DLing 1x a week. I dont usually do a warm-up set and I jump right into my 5rep max 5 sets. Well about 3 weeks ago I barely got through 3 sets. My lowerback, just above the buttox line has been hurting and I haven't been able to deadlift for 3, almost 4 weeks. I only feel pain when I touch my toes standing or deadlift motion.
Is this a serious back injury? Or a minor one that will go away with more times? Any remedies?
Most likely this will not require medical attention. However I would advise complete rest - avoid using the lower back, but keep it limber. That means stretch several times a day but not to the point that the pain is very bad. Also ice the area 3-4 times a day, 20 mins on 40 mins off.
Take ibuprofen as needed.
If after 1 week of this course you don't notice any change, see a doctor immediately. During the first week, however, I would advise seeing a chiropractor to put you on traction. This can greatly help.
Also hanging from a chinup bar (dead hang) would help you reduce the pain.
IF THE PAIN GETS WORSE DURING THESE SUGGESTIONS, STOP IMMEDIATELY!!
IF THE PAIN GETS WORSE ON ITS OWN, SEE A DOCTOR!!
