Dear Raynor,
I was wondering if you can help me answer 2 quick questions.
Do you eat quaker oatmeal? and with milk or water?
also
What can I do to get out of a flat barbell press plateau? (currently stuck at 205 and trying to get into the 2 plates range)
Some of my information if it helps u with the second question:
6'2 and bit
213lbs
20 years of age
I also feel I am underweight and I'm having a hard time gaining weight that holds as I usually drop like 4 pounds during sleep
Thanks alot man but this thread is huge and finding material is tough but I'm enjoying it.
1. Quaker or storebrand both are fine - I boil water and cook them in water, add a splash of milk and top off with cinnamon and blueberries.
2. To break through a plateau usually means you need to do two things. First of all, take 1 week off of the gym all together and continue to eat well. After the 1 week, go back in and pyramid up to the heaviest weight you can do for 1 rep. After you do that. Take about a 5 minute break, grab a spotter and load up the bar with around 315. Do LOCKOUTS with 315 for as many reps as you can. A lockout is basically getting the weight off the rack and lowering it about 3-4 inches and back up. Do 4 sets of these lockouts, going up in weight each time but starting with 315. The next time you train chest (probably next week), then I want you to try to do assisted full reps. You will load up the bar with about 245. Get the bar off the rack and with a strong spotter, lower the weight to your chest as slow as possible and then force it up using the spotter to give you enough power to get it up. Do this for 5 assisted reps. Do a total of 5 sets of this style.
During this time, continue with your NORMAL chest routine. Alternate between these two methods twice each (total of 1 month). After that, do a normal pyramid set up and try to hit 225 for as many reps as possible. You will most likely be doing 1-3 reps without a spotter.
