I added 40 lbs to my squat in a month with WSBB. Preplanned progression always seemed stupid to me. Go to your max always and thus you'll know you're progressing as fast as you can.

he's talking about 40lbs on a rep max not on a max effort.

However, the statement remains true. I'll never understand the usefulness in lifting less than you can (what you do 2 out if 3 weeks in 5/3/1).

Yeah, guys calm down I'm not saying I will, I said I'm going to try it and see how it goes being as I should easily be squatting more than I can now.
It's that I'm not used to squatting, not that I'm not big/strong enough. If it dosen't work I'll go back 5lbs.

This hopefully.
I've squatted on <5 workouts in my life.
Max atg is 2x85kg
Working ATM is probs around 60-70kg being as I don't squat.
My squat can't be that when my working 5x5 deadlift is 100kg

I wouldn't say you really max out. Lifting isn't about giving it 100% every time you lift. There's a reason people say "leave one or two in the tank."

5/3/1 has you do a week going for 5 reps with like what? 75% of 1rm iirc?
That's a warm-up. If I'm not going to do a 1rm max, at least I'd try to do a max rep.

You know I'm on about 5x5 not 5/3/1?

+noobsgains
+ dont squat
= squat progression >

I already know my working sets on bench/dl etc.

I'm starting on less than I know I can do so I can get back into lifting. I haven't lifted consistently since October.

Starting
60kg squat + 10lbs/week
70kg bench + 5lbs/week (can do 75kg if not 80kg x5)
90kg deadlift + 5lbs/week (can do 100kg x5)

That's the plan anyway.
Can simply lower the squat progression weight if it doesn't work.

It's 85% of your training max (which is 90% of your true max). I'll speak for 5/3/1 because I made massive gains on it and I've always been AWFUL at rep work (rep work is like cardio for me :P ).

While it may seem as if you're doing light weights, you have to realize that he tells you to do 5 + extra for the final set. Let's say my true 5rm is 100 for squats, but I'm doing 90 on my final set for 5s week. I wouldn't necessarily stop at 5, unless I had nothing left. You're supposed to do additional reps, but still leave one in the tank.
