you act like there arent bigger guys who lift but can sprint quickly too. as it turns out, both weight lifting and sprinting involve the same type of fast twitch muscle fiber.

are you surprised that you can sprint fast if you have even a decent squat/deadlift?

I'm not surprised, others are.

not that I want to keep the argument going but

all the kids @ my hs claimed 4.5 40s... I decided to play football my senior year and played RB/DE & all special teams
I was far from great but played/practiced hard and listened to my coaches.

I could beat majority of those kids in a race and I ran a whopping legit 4.9 40

Balla did u get D1 offers for FB? 4.7 40 @ 240lbs you would have at least a couple offers because even if you lacked raw athleticism/talent they would want to use u as a piece of meat.

tl;dr <4.8 40 in hs = legit 5.00 ... you can tell which kids are actually fast when you line up with them

I quit football before my senior year actually because our coaches were fucking idiots and pissed me off lol.. besides that I had literally no desire to play D1.. or any college ball for that matter. I'm not good enough to go to the NFL so even if I could get D1 playing time I have just no desire at all.. just not in my plans lol

And nah I really run a 4.7 m9.. I get people don't believe me but when I have I lied? Years ago when I first started lifting? I've proven everything since with vids and whatnot.. no reason to now lol.. I guess I just don't look athletic so people don't believe me?

Besides that basketball was my sport mainly. Funnily enough even with good size I was a finesse player

You're right on the money. Also to the other people, I don't mind taking 5 minutes out of my day to post about this. I'm here anyways, might as well chime in on something I actually know about.

The reason I say it's likely bs is because I went to countless showcases for my respective sport and saw literally thousands of players. You know how many players out of the 200+ at each showcase ran sub 6.7 60's which can roughly translate into a 4.7 or so.. like 2-3 kids. Let's not forget not one of them was taller than like 5'8. Once in blue moon there'd be a big guy running a sub 6.7 and scouts pants would get tight even if they weren't fundamentally good.

Also, out of all the 40s and 60s I had to run, it was interesting to see how much a minor change in conditions could affect your time. One showcase they wanted us to wear their shirts and it ended up being a little big on me. My shirt acted like the parachute behind race cars and my legit 6.5 turned into a 6.9. Grass too soft from rain, slowed me down. Even too much too eat for breakfast felt like it did me in. Not wearing my super light nike metal cleats... definitely wasn't running my top time. If I didn't consistently practice running the damn thing I would see my time slow down. So I also find it a bit farfetched that someone will claim to continue running a 4.7 after having packed on 40 pounds of fat and muscle and not running the thing for 2 years.

And of course here on hnf you have to prove everything. Especially with a spotty history.

And just to cut down on the spam a little I'll throw in a pic...

Yea pretty much this. Weight lifting does not correlate to someone being fast... And if you haven't actually trained in that specific area sprints, plyometrics etc to maintain/increase your speed.. in a while your definitely not going to be the same speed I don't care what type of top tier athlete you were/are. And whoever said weight lifting use the same type of fast twitch muscle fiber as sprinting is wrong.. Weight lifting you use more slow twitch muscle fiber and sprinting, jumping etc you use more fast twitch.

I'll agree as well. I am not a sprinter, and have never been super fast (I ran a 12.8 in the 100m from a standing start in 8th grade, but haven't ever been timed since then). From what I know from being in track though and being around a lot of good sprinters, you can stay semi fast without much training, but you can't take off months and months and maintain anywhere near a top speed. Then, add in the fact of putting on a ton of body weight and expect to run the same speed without training for the sprint, no flipping way. I know of guys (and have heard of others who I don't personally know) a lot bigger than Balla that can run those speeds, but they also sprint a few times week as part of their training and are much much more athletic and explosive than him (I'm talking ranked in the world for what they do). But, there is no point in going against him as he is always right. I guess we'll just say he is an anomaly to the world of high end athlete.
