In my opinion, quality of life drops FAST after the 40 hour mark.  This is coming from a guy with no wife or kids.

I call BS on people who talk casually about 60+ hour work weeks (unless they are working though residency).  Just being away from home doesn't count.  I mean actually being on the clock 60+ hours/week.

I am ok with working overtime every now and then, but when it becomes regular I do put my foot down.  I find it surprising how little free time I have even though I have no responsibilities aside from my 40hr/week job.

Add a serious GF to the mix and yup there is no fucking time at all, very stressful

and people wonder why people dont get shit done at work.

I could easily do my job in 4-6 hours a dfay most days

Some days it willl get busy as fuck and i have to work 10

But i could easily average less than 8

I was scheduled to be in Antarctica 3 weeks ago ... But my trip got cancelled because of engine failures ... Now the ship is floating in the Beagle channel in Ushuaia because it's still undergoing repairs. On the bright side, I still went to Argentina and Chile and hiked in Patagonia which was frigging awesome (so beautiful).

Hope your trip to Antarctica goes without hiccups. But uh 7 months from now? What tour company are you going with ??? None that I know of go down there at that time of year ... It's winter ... All the companies are going now (October - February) when it's spring/summer time.

Not using a tour company. I contacted locals because I didn't want to be on a ship with a bunch of obnoxious tourists who took 600 billion selfies. This trip has been planned for nearly a year, because I was worried I'd have a hard time finding what I was looking for.

I've had a shitload of different jobs.

Then one day I sat down. Took an hour or so to evaluate where my life was at. I despised working 40 hours a week, called in sick all the fucking time or got REALLY shitty jobs that had a good wage and worked part time.

I was a gamer, but I also wanted to do a bunch of extra curricular activities and I just couldn't fit all of those in a day while having a full time job.

So I decided to get a job related to gaming and now I'm paid to play video games 40 hours a week. So when I get home, I don't even fucking wanna touch a video game with a 10 foot pole. Super fucking saturated. It's important to get a job you actually like. + Now I've got time to do shit.

I started playing chess again, playing badminton twice a week, etc.

40 hours a week is an excessive amount of time, but if you want to live comfortably and actually DO what you want to do rather than just think/dream/hope of doing it, you need to work unfortunately. If you wanna work less, you need a high paying job, but getting one of those usually requires you to work a fuckton for quite a few years.

I like traveling. I'm paying 7000$ to go spend 2 weeks alone on a boat with a 3 man boat crew in Antarctica about 7 months from now. I just got back from China. I was in Boston and New York 4 months ago. California last year. The only places I haven't been yet are Japan and Africa. Africa can suck it, I'm not going near that shithole.

I digress a little. Overall, I think having to bust your ass at a shit job 40 hours a week to come back to a bitchy wife who's more of a mom than a wife is cause for suicide. That's not a life. That's a failed attempt at what other people tell you life is.

If someone shot me in the face tomorrow, I wouldn't even be sad about it. I've exclusively done things I wanted to do ever since I left my parents' house a decade ago. That decade is worth a lifetime of someone telling me he works 60 hours a week and wishes he could do something with all that $ he ends up spending on cheap sushi and starbucks coffee.

For those of you still stuck in that black hole of consumerism, just pause for a second and think. What do you WANT to do? Do it. Right now. Don't postpone. Don't give yourself bullshit excuses. Just grab your balls and do it. Stop trying to buy next gen phones, pretty little furniture, gucci douchebag glasses, 100$ cologne and penis enlargment pills. Stick to what you ACTUALLY need and you'll realize it's very little.

No I did not. I worked security jobs when I got out of highschool. Then some customer service. Then I got some online courses to be a personal trainer and did that for a while. Then worked in music. Now I work in gaming.

The funny thing is that the tourists you would be going with are 90% old people who don't take selfies lol...antarctica trips aren't exactly trips people in their 20's and even 30's tend to go on. It's for a more mature crowd.

What locals did you contact though lol...ain't no "locals" in Antarctica lmao. Did you contact people in Ushuaia?

Once again though ... People don't go to Antarctica during the winter season lol...unless you are a red bull pro athlete or a scientist ... So I am more than intrigued about this trip of yours ...

A small 3 person crew boat making it through the Drake Passage during the winter? Wat. Got yourself a tiny little nuclear powered ice breaker?

No lol

I more or less gave the big lines of what I was going to do, but the locals I contacted are in Argentina. And I'm mostly going to be touring icebergs. It's not exactly IN Antarctica, we're just heading in that general direction.

I originally wanted to get all the way to antarctica, but it's pricey and a pain in the ass if you don't go through a touring agency or go with a bunch of other people and like you said, the time at which I want to go doesn't make much sense either.
