Yeah, I am somewhat familiar with the process. But, unless you are a manufacturer with the proper licensing, LEO, or Military, you can't own anything fully auto unless it was made before 1986. It can be done, but it is super expensive to get an older fully automatic weapon, plus the ATF tax fee, and the paperwork. I'm actually going through the process to get a suppressor at the moment, which comes down to me first setting up a 'gun trust' for the suppressor (and any other class III weapons I pursue in the future) to legally reside under.

I personally was more nervous around hand guns than I was a rifles when I started. But, I grew up in a rural hunting community, so rifles were fairly normal to see around.

I've never hunted because I grew up in a city :/ one day though, I will live on a few acres

The only reason I would get one at the moment is for a suppressor, and maybe a SBR. I would like something with select fire three round burst, but fully auto just isn't practical at the moment - the guns are usually $10k+, fully auto doesn't serve much real purpose other than suppressive fire (which is useless to me), and they eat up ammo way too fast.

You go to a lawyer and set up a living trust (similar a trust fund, but not exactly), where the suppressor is legal property under trust, and not necessarily you as an individual. It bypasses having to get fingerprinted and getting written off from a chief LEO, but the background check is still done and the ATF paperwork is still submitted and takes like 6+ months for the application to purchase the item to get approved on the Federal level.
