Keto wasn't originally invented for the mass public. If I recall correctly it was for epileptics to avoid seizures.

Some of the science behind it is very interesting. Just like fasting. It IS effective for weight loss, but most people have a difficult time sticking to that diet because it is quite unforgiving with how little carbs you're allowed to get in a day and how breaking ketosis just fucks you up. Keto flu also sucks and feeling like shit when dieting is the best way to make sure you don't stick to the diet.

If you're looking to lose weight, I'd recommend intermittent fasting over keto. It's very easy to do, much more forgiving with what you can eat. Far more flexible with the length of fasting periods and the principle of it also helps cutting out the frequent snacks that many people have that dramatically increase your daily caloric intake without really noticing.

The problem with keto is that people really think it’s magically burning fat. You’re burning dietary fat for energy, not adipose tissue. The diet works the same way as every other diet, calorie balance. The only difference between keto and the other diets is the MASSIVE amounts of fats you introduce to your body. This can and will wreak havoc on your body.

Rather than doing that, just eat a healthy balanced meal.

Ketones work better for fuel.
Your brain even works better on them.

Ketones don’t work better for fuel…. The advantages of glycogen vs ketones are abundant and published literary bazillion times. Understanding how carbohydrates are important for recovery and how the basic fundamentals of the keto diet increase dietary fats by 60-80% can/will cause long acting repercussions is fundamental before recommending a diet that will cause someone to have a fucking stroke in a decade and perform like shit in life.

Your brain functions almost solely on glycogen, it doesn’t function on ketones. Again, there are a multitude of articles that support this, and the only articles that are readily available that support the opposite are chock full of bias and anecdotal evidence.

That’s awesome, if it works for her/you, have at it. But understand that the shit that most people spout about ketosis is garbage and read on the back label of keto supplements at GNC.

Yet almost every person on the high carb modern american diet is not only fat, but clinically obese.
Hmmmm....
