I still train for athletic performance so I can say that I get sore pretty often, but bear in mind two things:
1. I'm doing different workouts, testing different things. Variety has its ups and downs;
2. I'm 39 years old, so my recovery is probably a bit hindered.
Soreness isn't a problem so long as it isn't a sign of bigger problems: tearing connective tissue beyond its capacity to self-repair, rhabdo, inflammation, general depletion due to fatigue (hormonal, etc.). If you train hard, train smart. Soreness can mean a lot of things and you need to know whether your soreness is hurting or helping. Usually if you've been training a while, soreness decreases.
