Gets me a little mad seeing stuff like:
- sumo pose for deadlift
- arching back ridiculously for bench press
- kipping for pullups
It's one thing if you're training & it fits within what you need, but it's another thing if you're in a competition.
Seeing body differences, it's weird too... like when you see a bench press competition where one guy has to push the bar half as far as the other guy, just because of their arm/chest size differences. Most people who win bench press competitions hardly push the bar at all... they're big, and likely stronger, but the size & strength also reduces the overall work needed for benching.
You cant get mad at the winner of the Modern Pentathlon because he has webbed feet and therefore crushed the 200m swim, or the guy who was born like a crab with 1 GIANT claw arm who crushes the shotput
But yes, 5 inch ROM benching looks funny, unimpressive etc but they cant change the rules to have a minimum ROM as some people just wont be able to physically press it that far (sub jr females 44 kg division),
Every time i see people on facebook bag out a new world record bench press i just lol. If its so easy why dont they do it? Thats because its not easy to contort your body into ridiculous exorcism poses, thats why the Japanese seem to be dominating the bench press. Most likely because they made the original The Grudge, The Ring, etc etc
Different body shapes obviously give different advantages and disadvantages to the 3 powerlifts. You will see all kinds of body shapes in a full powerlifting meet. The small armed fat guys will crush the bench, the long armed guys will crush the deadlift, and the short legged guys will crush the squat (more or less) and in the end, it all evens out (more or less). Everyones got their favorite lift and its usually the lift you are best at, which is usually because your leverages are best for that lift
