No, high carbohydrate intake is also a major (if not leading( cause of atherosclerosis. Cholesterol has gotten a bad name but it is now being realized that it's not the top dog heart killer it was thought to be.
On that note, the oldest living woman (117) has been on a heavy egg diet for decades.
If you're active, you eat your greens, and you have a decent metabolism for fat, you can mow down on eggs without risk. At least according to what I have read.
