the stevia plant has tons of health benefits and the sugar extracted from it shares a few of the benefits. notably antioxidants. it's banned in europe because tests on cells, in a lab, outside of the body, outside of their biological context came up
mutagenic, not carcinogenic.
this concern isn't crazy by any means, considering the fact many of you happily eat cooked red meat which has been known to be carcinogenic for a while now.
the only danger to diabetics is stevia extracts which are mixed with sugar alcohols like xylitol, which will show 9g carbs on nutrition facts, but in reality only have say 1 or 2g that will affect blood glucose. since sugar alcohols don't affect blood glucose some diabetics make a mistake and administer insulin for carbs that are basically imaginary. a misleading thing. i hope it's common knowledge for diabetics.
diabetes is either the resistance to insulin or the inability to create insulin. so no, unfortunately stevia doesn't make the pancreas work again or cause it to pick up the slack on insulin resistance.

Technically venom needs to be injected into the blood stream to be fatal. Drinking it is perfectly fine. Poison is deadly if consumed.
How is sugar detrimental to one's health?
it's not detrimental unless you have tumors or cancer or poor dental hygiene habits.. then it's only detrimental in the fact it's an unnecessary additive which aids the growth of said tumor, or multiplication of said cancer cells, or aids already decaying teeth. it helps all cells grow of course, but this is the only reason it'd be a bad thing, especially considering how easy it is to consume a LOT of sugar without even trying to.
