mm yea what do u think is a good gear range? I mostly drive everywhere and havent really noticed any possibly troublesome vert hills, there is the odd gradually increasing incline road though

is a back wheel hand break really necessary? srs question btw

and wouldnt a single gear make me hate the hilly terrain? haha

mm yeah, went to the bike store and the cheapest road bike they have is 900$ lol

and everyone trying to sell their bikes seem to either be selling a $1200 bike for 600, or a 400$ 10 year old bike for like 100-200 .. not too comfortable spending any money on an old bike tbh, probably rather get a slightly crappier one with the added warranty

investing in a good bike its worth it from experience u def get alot better performance out of a good bike than a shitty low quality bike.

you can easily get a fixed gear bike and cruise around for fitness for under 500$ or get a decent road bike for 600 without the bells and whistle as a starter. its def worth the investment.

ive got a hybrid and can do long distances and cost me under 500 canadian and been using it for over 3 years no issues

get something like this

https://www.amazon.com/Vilano-FORZA-Aluminum-Integrated-Shifters/dp/B00NDXXRGU?ie=UTF8&tag=bodygearguide-20

or this

https://www.amazon.com/Streaker-Single-Speed-Fixed-Gear/dp/B00OSKHFII/ref=sr_1_64?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1465390065&sr=1-64&refinements=p_36%3A1253559011

could get u some good milage just an example tho

For the casual cyclist, 5 to 10 speeds is more than enough.

However, bikes with fewer gears usually (not always, but usually) fall into one of two categories: heavier frames (cf: Electra Townie and similar bikes) or cheaper (ie, mass produced) framesets.

For your needs, I think ^ Orakpo is on the money, suggesting a used, or otherwise older bike. Your local shops may have something that fits your wants and budget, or you might be able to score something on craigslist.

Daily bike commuter here, if you're looking to bike daily I'd either recommend investing in a road bike with decent parts (even entry level shimano parts like claris / sora sets will last you years longer than cheaper parts) so you're not constantly in need of repairs or go with the much cheaper fixie that'll work rain or shine.

Otherwise you're going to end up like 90% of people that buy a bike for commuting, you bike for a week, something breaks, never get it fixed, never bike again.

edit: also buying online can get great deals but they do require assembly, which if you're uncomfortable doing yourself might run an extra $75 at your local bike shop. (youtube has an enormous amount of helpful vids on putting any type of bike together)

edit 2: also used bikes can be amaaaazing if you know what you're looking for, just requires a little research into bike parts and in no time you can ballpark pretty much any bikes retail value!

get a good second hand one. You can find $1000+ bikes for under $500 pretty easily.
