I concur!

Lower the weight OP until you can get 3 sets of 8 with the weight. IMO if you stay above 5 reps you're good.

Is it better training if you do 3x8 by lowering weight?

Every consistent rep scheme is a lie because you''re supposed to go 100% intensity every set, yes.

I've always been going 100% every set.. I feel like it's the right way to train.

So weird.

I have often asked the same question.

If I do 3x8 at the same weight each time that means I wasn't trying on the first set.

I don't go 100% each time, but certainly more than 75%.

3x8 is a stupid rule.

This is far from optimal, and probably even cutting yourself way short.

Everything works different for everyone. I find that with me, starting high weight and then going lower works best (obviously your muscles don't understand the weight your lifting, and in certain situations 10 lbs can feel like 100 depending on how strained your muscles are - so your muscles treat them as if you were lifting 100)

It's all about training smart. I start high - drop low in further sets. This way, you have much much more control over the lower weight and again, your muscles believe that it's higher weight. You're able to also do negative reps (where real gains come from).

Anyone who disagrees is small af.
