What's the deal with weighlifting? All I hear is people saying 'oh, you know it works every muscle in your body' but to me it seems like a less efficient way of getting stronger compared to modest swimming coupled with some bodyweight exercises. Are there any benefits of weightlifting that separate it from other methods of exercises and offer something I'm overlooking?
Exercise is exercise. Some people don't like lifting weights or running on a track so they swim. It's just another method of fitness for some people.
for good health, any exercise is good. buuuut take a look around, general well-being isn't a #1 concern for the majority. we all have different goals/motivations, for most it's ego, some strength, some endurance, etc etc of course you know this
strength has it's respective scale with all those different goals. 3 years of dedicated boxing training had me shredded with the endurance of a goddamn superhuman, but raw strength was lacking. i gained more strength in 1 year of lifting than i did 3 years of boxing.
i'm not saying swimming doesn't make you stronger, but someone who exclusively lifts is always gonna have more raw strength, and someone who exclusively swims is always gonna have more endurance. powerlifter will have shit endurance but always be stronger than a bodybuilder, etc etc etc
gotta figure out what you want to put points in, strength dexterity or vitality. duh.
