Here's a good artical comparing weight training to cardio for fat loss.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/fat_loss_training_wars.htm

IMO, do both.

Deadlift
Squat
Bench press
Lat pull downs
Shoulder press
T-Bar row
Skull crushers
Barbell curls

Don't do any of the other bullshit if you're just starting.

Thanks for the advice guys right now I don't want to look at building muscle. I want to focus more on losing weight and once I get there then start muscle...not sure if this is dumb or not but I'll check out your guys advice here

Why would you lose weight and then start lifting? The best way to build muscle is on a caloric surplus, meaning gaining weight.

Losing weight to gain weight is dumb.

I mean I have never tested it, but I would imagine that you would see better results if you were a beginner and at a caloric surplus. Why hinder your own progress? Especially since it's about to be winter.

optimal weight loss is achieved through a routine that has lifting aswell as cardio

lifting, although burning less calories during the workout, temporarily boosts your metabolism during muscle repair

best way to get into shape is to do both, plus a lil muscle wont hurt
