this is definitely a possibility, but i like to take a different approach on this subject.
i agree that it is due to a mineral/vitamin deficiency that we sometimes get strong cravings for food. a good example would be a pregnant woman. now you might say, this isnt true because not all pregnant women have the same cravings. this is because theyre not all deficient in the same minerals/vitamins! her body is spending a lot of her stores to create and build a new human being, and her body is telling her what she needs.
another example would be dogs/cats eating grass. a lot of people will just assume this is because the animal is not feeling well and wishes to vomit to alleviate nausea, but from my understanding, its due to a lack of minerals/vitamins in their diets! the animals will not just eat any grass species, but rather search for specific species that typically have high concentrations of nitrilosides.
of course, this is all theory. who really knows! just my take on it.
