icing does seem to help while its being iced and then for like 5 to 10 min after i take ice off. only ice for 20 min on and then wait like 30 to 40 min before icing again, a few times a day

only think icing helps cause its numbs the area with the cold, very temporary

i also did get 10 days of naproxen from the regular school doctor. but i ran out 2 days ago. dont think i noticed anything from it.

its in pain when not moving it. but also when i do a front lateral raise with no weight i feel pain
and i usually drive with my left hand even though i am right handed. and it hurts EXTREMELY bad when it turn the steering wheel with my left hand... so im only using my right for now.

Keep applying ice and also heat. Since you keep aggravating it, it's like you are re-injuring that area over and over...explaining the long time to recover. The ice will reduce inflammation, the heat will help with the tightness/soreness of the muscle and both will help you feel better.

Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory...there won't be much of a difference with your type of injury. Advils, even Motrin IBs did nothing for me during that time.

Front lateral raises would hurt, this definitely suggests it is your supraspinatus. Try to avoid that motion completely altogether.

Think of your recovery as this: each time you feel pain, you undue your progress of healing. Minimize painful movements as much as you can.

Focus on secondary muscle strengthening, apply gentle massages to the area and most importantly restrict all aggravation-prone movement with it. It will be a long road to a correct recovery, but it is necessary. Stop all workouts that aggravate it, such as pulldowns and raises and focus on strengthening your secondary muscles. The band training is good and I strongly suggest to try swimming and other types of exercise that involve different muscle groups.

hmmm yeah ive so far not been at the gym since thursday..... so like 3 days

i did take like 2 months off before, no gym at all. around 1.5 years ago when it was hurting alot.... but the pain came right back around 1 week after i started to lift again

and recently around 2 months ago i took 2 weeks off completely because of schoolwork and other stuff i had to focus on.

longest breaks ive taken

maybe here and there a few times ive taken 1 week off for various reasons, but not often.

ill take time off till i have no pain during normal daily activities and will see what the orthopedic says, first time seeing a specialist for this. hope he does an MRI. i believe that is better than an xray to see exactly whats going on?

The breaks are inconsistent. You'll actually have to restrict and isolate for longer periods while applying treatment.

Good idea, keep taking time off. The orthopedic will definitely help, I'm interested to know what he or she says.

He will most likely do an MRI for your injury; x-rays are pointless in your case since they don't reveal soft tissues like MRI's do.

Hope your recovery goes well!

If physio or those kinds of treatment don't work you should go get an ultrasound or an MRI because it's usually a deeper issue

Didn't read any of the posts or even your original post. But I'll go ahead and let you know every orthopedist I've seen has recommended surgery. It's how they get paid.

Read the posts after I typed that. But first I saw one for my knee, which of course needed surgery. But I saw the same one for my elbow and even though I'd had MRI's that they couldn't find anything wrong with, he suggested surgery as his first option. Same thing happened a few years ago with my mom and a shoulder surgery that she still hasn't had to this day and doesn't have the problem anymore. It's just where they make the majority of their money. They'll probably recommend PT first (at their facility most likely), then if that doesn't help, it will be surgery.

I'm not by any means saying you don't need it! It just always bothered me to think they are just like "oh well let's do surgery Fk it" as a first thought.

I've had shoulder paid for over a year only in my right. It hurts when I do bench in the downward motion and when I do heavy shrugs. I noticed it was worse when I started incorporating 3 sec pauses in bench, so I took 4 months off bench and am now rebuilding trying to watch form, although it was sound in the first place.

I think something in my right side is double jointed or some shit because I can flex my traps and back muscles in a way I haven't been able to duplicate on the left side. I really need to see a doctor LOL.

yeah i can "move" my left shoulder in many ways that i cannot move my right shoulder

in the mirror it looks like the same movements.... but i can feel the bones or tendons or whatever moving very very strangely and pops, grinds, cracks etc.... slight pain, slight relief when i do this, like pressure being relived

yet even if there is no pain when moving it like this... i feel like its bad and causes the pain i feel an hour later cause shit was sliding against each other and aggravating it.

will ask doc about this tomorrow.

fukin hope he doesnt suggest surgery, but i can see why he would just for money

if he does, what can i ask him to see if hes in it for the money?

ill for sure ask.... how long till i should get the surgery? if he says as soon as possible... then likely he just wants cash. if he says i wont need it if i choose to stop lifting or i can try some other alternatives before considering surgery, then he might not be so greedy

highly doubt its something that requires immediate attention. although who knows. im not a doctor

I try to believe that most doctors have your best intentions in their minds, but some are all about money. The MRI alone is gonna cost money. I'd see a regular doctor that can interpret the scans who would then refer you to a surgeon to fix the issue if need be. Then you know it isn't about money.

My right shoulder used to pop, grind, make weird ass noises with normal movement but now it doesn't quite as much but my left shoulder does now. The left doesn't hurt during any exercises and again no stretching causes pain, only when I'm holding heavy weight and it feels like my right shoulder is being pulled out of the socket does it hurt and it's right where my trap meets my shoulders in the front/top area.

Do you supplement omega 3/fish oil? When I am on a good daily regimen and don't forget s few days a week my shoulder seems to not pop/grind as much! Good luck brotha!!
