that can be what shin splints are, but it can also be many other things, not just microfractures
yeah it's webmd but it gets the point across. I got them because I have mildly flat feet and I was constntly running on uneven ground
http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/shin-splintsJust comes back to your form, not properly adjusting your landing for the impact during your running. Don't stomp and u won't get shin splits. I also suffered from this until I noticed that my form took a major impact away and I have no pain on my shins or knees.
Edit: note that I tested this theory to the limit with barefoot shoes called vibrams on concrete. The way you impact the ground is crucial to enjoying your runs pain-free and longevity of your bones and joints.
Edit2: just another example of how doctors today will not be able to help you. They will not tell you it's your running form. They will not access your doing and not doing to its underlying composition in which causes the root problem. They just push drugs and tell you to keep damaging your body because eventually you'll be handicapped and they can then make tons more money off you with surgeries and more drugs.
