that sucks, you'll get it next time though. I'd say wear cleats if that portion is on grass but they probably won't let you switch in the middle of it?

We're doing our probationary aptitude test here on April 25th. Top 100+ ties move on to the physical. It's not a CPAT physical though.

Is the CPAT a cumulative test time or does the time run continuously from start to finish of all 8 exercises? basically run like an obstacle course or do they time you on each individual event and the add all the times together?

It's all on concrete at the Fire and Police Training Academy. Wore my sambas because they're sticky and perfect for dragging the 165 lb dummy on the concrete. But with the rain it was like I was standing on ice in some areas on the course. Pretty sure I was human hydroplaning at one point too.. ha

do they run it like an obstacle course where all 8 events have to be done one after the other while the timer runs continuously or do they time each event and add the times together at the end?

Continuous. Timer starts once they add the additional 25 lbs to your shoulders and you step up onto the stair master. A proctor follows you monitoring your condition and letting you know how much time you have left. Inbetween each event is 85 feet you have to walk.

Stair master is 3 min 20 seconds, and each walking distance is an average of 20 seconds. So that leaves an average of 40 seconds to accomplish each event. Obviously some are quick, like the door breach, but the dummy drag takes easily a minute.

ahh gotcha. I'm guessing you're supposed to use the 85 feet as rest time essentially lol

To anyone wondering. I found this. It explains what is required to pass the CPAT

Seems dumb that weather can factor into a test

Everyone should be tested at same conditions

Yeah the 85 feet are meant to be a rest/cool down period. Which was crucial between the stair master and hose drag.

Yeah I think that's why I'm frustrated. I feel like I would have passed if it was dry. They were only planning to reschedule if it started thundering.
