do you guys stretch? if so, when?

it seems to be a unanimous opinion that stretching before a workout is asking for injuries, so there's that.

used to stretch daily while i was doing boxing/jiu-jitsu training, but since starting strength training have only stretched on rest days to keep flexibility.

:P much respect for those who practice jiu-jitsu. the most practical form of martial arts imo. there's a very steep learning curve and is a lot tougher than i imagined it'd be. unfortunately only got 1 year of training before my training buddy fell off the face of the earth.

since personal experience talking with people myself doesn't really support this, i guess do a quick youtube/google on stretching before working out to see that it's the popular opinion? but if you don't think so, do explain. unless you're trying to nitpick, in that case nvm.

broke my pelvic bone from stretching. only person who likes stretching is aube but he needs it to do backflips and throw 100lb girls in the air. unless u wanna do that then dont waste your time with it, do abs or arnie presses instead

I always warm up before lifting.

That includes using the bike or elliptical until I break a sweat.

Then I foam roll and use a lacross ball.

I also hang from chin up bar and twist body around.

Before bench I usually grab a couple 2.5 lb plates and do some dynamic stretches to open up the chest, shoulders,
Lats

I also use resistance bands to open up chest, shoulders, Lats, hips.

I stretch at night about 2 hours before bedtime. I do it for meditation though, can be gg for melting away daily stress personally. Obviously not very relevant to stretching to increase ROM and such, just my 2 cents.

I don't stretch.. But I do work on positioning before I lift.

I'll foam roll, work on my thoracic, stretch my hips, etc.. But I'm not doing any of those traditional stretches you learn in PE class in school.

Sure "stretching" can get you injured, but loosening your body so that you can get into a better position on a movement like say... The overhead squat.. Can help you prevent injury.. If that makes sense?

doing a proper warmup before you get into the meat of your workout is important in preventing injury. A lot of people get away with not warming up when they're younger, but the older you get the more you'll realize how important it is

As for me, I always do dynamic stretching and warm up the muscles and joints that will be worked that day. I also spend 6:30-7 minutes on the rowing machine as part of my workout. I row a mile. It gets the blood flowing

Post workout I do static stretching. I do a full body stretch after it's all said and done as my cooldown. I've been slacking lately and not stretching as much as I usually do tho

i warm up with light weight dbs as well, cool idea hanging from a chin up bar. i think i'll try it and probably look like an idiot figuring how to make it work for me haha

your posts are always on-point, gg

the part about warmups mattering more as you get older is something i hear from a few different youtubers, most notably Scooby, figured i'd heed the advice of those who have already been there and form the habit now

post-workout stretches feel GREAT. especially biceps, i don't know if it's because of the lactic acid or what, some stretches combined with a roller :hail: definitely
