I thought that was the ultimate goal when you get to the end of the lift? Locking it out at the top?

Neutral spine during the WHOLE deadlift and any other lift.

Tuck your chin man...

Also Ya bad on way down...if you ain't gonna drop it...stay tight up and down. On bottom before you go up take big breath in and hold it throughout entire rep (up and down). Exhale when you get back down, reset and repeat.

Also squeeze glutes at top.

the problem on your way down is you start looking down as well, looking up helps keep your back from bending. Keep them shoulder blades back

Can also put strain on neck muscles though...his neck should be in line with his back (straight line from lower back to head).

well yeah im not telling him to look straight up, should be about 45 degrees due to the way his back should be, kind of drops lower when you go down, also depends on if you are doing SLDL or regular

either way looking up helps with keeping your back aligned

Yeah like I said, I wasn't even thinking it was a problem, so I was just setting it down without trying to keep any form.

looking up as in staring in the mirror the whole timeƉ nah that shit compromises curvature of the rest of spine. head should be neutral, back should be neutral. you move at the knees and hips and the back musculature more or less contracts isometrically the entire time. get your spine set in neutral BEFORE you move at all (dont even touch the bar until you set your spine). i reach above my head before a set as if in the top position of a snatch, lock all vertebrae tight and then extend arms (anatomical extension) and crease at hips to touch bar without moving my spine. then just generate torque with hips and quads
