I don't think anyone's arguing that counting calories will result in weight loss.
I think what they are saying is that the weight loss is temporary because some people can't maintain that new diet over the long term. As soon as they reach their target weight they think they've done it and then go back to their old diet and regain all the weight.
There needs to be better education about why you are losing weight and how can you maintain that weight long term.
