Nice. when I was able to do about 340-50 I could do a 5x5 @ 285 with the 5th set getting 7 reps instead of 5.

I'd think you're in that ball park. Not sure why you'd want to do 8 sets though?

Not sure why you would limit yourself to 5 sets?!

I used to mix it up with front squats and other leg exercises to hit different parts of the quad muscles. I don't think I'd ever do 8 sets of strictly one exercise but to each their own.

example of one of my leg workouts (about 6 months before I was doing what I mentioned in my latter post)

Of course now I can't do any of that shit as my legs are far weaker and my damaged hamstring and calcified sacro-Iliac joints won't allow it... :(

Hopefully some time soon I can be able to do squats again. I miss doing them

The closer you get from intermediate/advanced the more volume you need.

Your squat workout is pretty low volume. It might be enough for novice and early intermediate but It won't be enough to create adaptation at a certain point.

I'd say ur rest period between those 8 sets is a big factor.

I know. That's one of the most annoying things about the gym. After a while you have to do stupid amounts of exercises or sets to keep up with gains. For example, a month ago when I was first back after 3 1/2 years away 2, sets per muscle group was enough. A month later and I'm already up to 4 sets (I typically do 8-10 reps per set. 3-4 sets/exercise) per muscle group. I have to rebuild my foundation though before I can go heavy.

Also for me anyway I have always noticed a distinct difference in 5 or 6 Rep sets for muscle burnout as opposed to 8-10 Rep sets. Low Rep stuff doesn't burn my muscles out nearly as much. Maybe it's my body type but I don't see gains as much with something like a strictly 5x5 routine. I need to mix the reps up across the exercises for the most beneficial results
