I thought smith machines needed a spotter more so than regular bench lol

Regular bench you can roll the plates off roll of shame style, or you can roll the bar down till u can sit up and get outa there.

With a smith machine it holds you don't and rapes u with no escape

na it is set so the bar stop 1cm or whatever u want before the bar is on ur chest

sounds like your current one is really shitty, probably just some old CVS some dude bought and turned it into a neighborhood gym, but has no idea about weightlifting

the gym at my work that maybe get's used once a week by 1 person has a bench and probably +315 pounds you can put on the 45 pound bar

I have no idea why gyms can exist without this shit

That's a smith machine, limits range of motion, bar weighs 15 lbs and not 45 lbs like olympic bars weigh.
