Incline is a sort of hybrid between bench and OHP. You should be stronger in bench. If you aren't stronger in bench then stop doing incline and start doing bench correctly.

stop doing incline? wtf is that kind of advice? he should do both, period.

More frequency on bench if he's barely benching over his incline. Sure if you want a thick clavicular portion of your pecs then do incline... but his incline will still be shit if he can't actively recruit the proper muscles. Chances are he's not doing one or the other correctly if he truly does the same weight on both.

bullshit. you always need more focus on your upper pec as it is, and you're not going to bench press flat for 20 sets. frequency only goes so far, if that was the only contributing factor, everyone would be benching/squatting/rowing 7 times a week.
maybe his flat sucks because doesn't contract his scapulas in, where it happens a lot more naturally in incline? maybe he archs so much like an fucking idiot he ends up not benching at all? maybe he burns himself up from over-frequency? maybe a million different reasons that have nothing to do with the fact he also inclines.

and if he's all about size, fuck strength in general, just reach lactic threshold and push on.

e: by this logic if you squat more than you deadlift, you should also stop squatting.
