Very interesting thoughts. Other Jsp members, come share yours.

i don't think that at all. i even said bodybuilders are strong...  and i completely get that.

you said looking big but not being that strong does not compute, implying there isnt a relatively tight coupling of the two training outcomes. yes there is wiggle room but unless you're a body builder who suddenly progresses into advanced stages of MS or some neuropathy, the disconnect isnt that big. and body builders have metabolic work capacity that powerlifters might not. both are very functional attributes of muscle that can be applied to real life.

again aesthetics should be considered a by product of hyp training, even though we use it as the focus for that style. the REAL goal is still a performance outcome.

i believe he's talking about his own preference. big bodybuilders with puny strength being an awkward conception to him.

yeah im just sick of the perpetuation (by general population) that bodybuilders are full of air and cant actually move lol. some people

im taking a senior class this year entirely about muscle function and metabolism and its probably the most interesting thing ive ever taken, im smitten. im gonna try and sweet talk the prof into taking me on as an msc student next year. he teaches the first half of the course which is all about neuroanat and neuromuscular torque regulation, second half is muscle metabolism.

also dissecting our corpse right now, cool fucking stuff. i was playing around with my lady's brachial plexus on tuesday, exploring deep anterior shoulder and arm right now

Bodybuilders aren't weak.

They're big and strong.

My only thought is, a bodybuilder V a powerlifter of equal size, power lifter will always win because they train for strength. I'm not going in to the whole they train for one rep maxes and all that right now, lets keep it light and simple.

question is, win what? a bodybuilder of equal size would still be on his way to becoming bigger or more symmetrical etc. eventually their appearances will differ, with one caring for it and the other not.

i guess its more of a question of the age old argument, aesthetics or performance, and im really just taking a little survey to see what the people of jsp go for. I personally do performance training, aesthetics are nice and all and yes bodybuilders are strong but hypertrophy to me doesn't seem viable in the real world

Broken down, looking big but not being that strong does not compute

im glad to say i don't think i saw my first question on that list.

and how is strenght training really viable in the real world?
might be nice for a bricklayer

Equal size? Powerlifters typically have higher body fat levels, bodybuilders are usually more lean.

Win what? A fight? I certainly hope they would win a powerlifting compeition, but a bodybuilding competition, who do you think would win that?

no not a fight, i meant in weight lifting... i know what your trying to say they both excel at what they do, but i would take being really strong over looking really good. but i guess it really does just come down to preference. and i use the words "being very strong" as a person to person thing, because i obviously couldn't compete with a body builder when it comes to weight, actually theres one i really look up to, ronnie coleman. i just prefer performance over aesthetics, I'm not trying to argue with anyone.

Yeah it's all preference. :p

For me, id much rather look like zyzz than Ronnie Coleman or any big power lifter.
