5000 is 167 months of gym membership @ 30bucks/month... thats near 14 years of gym

there are so many pieces of equipment that you'll never have because of limited space / budget... im thinking leg extension, hamstring curls, pec deck etc etc etc...
you'll end up doing the same movements over and over, with NO alternative (switching it up from db/bb to machines from time to time) for 14 years? lol ridiculous

takes me 15 min to get to the gym and the same to get back home. I'd train 4 days a week. that's 2 hours per week and over 4 days of driving every years!!! how about the gaz? Gaz is 1,40 a L where I live and it's a 10 km each training days... 40 km a week and 2080 km a year. Good thing my car does 8l/100km in the city. simple math 166.4 L a year for gym transportation =232.96$. +400$ for gym membership=632.96$

5000/632.96= 7.9 year and I'd save a month of my life. LOL

at 5k I'd an oly platform, powerrack, Elite barbells that would last, dumbbells, bumper plates, GHR, rings, bands etc.

This is all hypothetical..but I'm just wondering about what I'd be missing with the following set up.

Bench Press
Power Rack (pull ups would have to be done here)
Adjustable bench for DB presses (and to avoid having to adjust the bench every couple of sets)
DB set / Rack
3x barbells
Matted area to do deads (i guess in theory entire power rack should be on a matted surface).
Abs Bench
4x 45's , 2x 25's 4x 10's, 4x 5's, 2x 2.5's.
1x cardio machine (treadmill or exercise bike)

IN THEORY, this could cost under 3 grand with solid equipment.  Hell, with a lot of patience and craigslist luck, possibly 1500-2k (although that would take a ton of luck)

Thoughts?

Obviously, you'd miss some of the machines, but in terms of convenience for someone with limited time, and effectiveness...it's there IMO.

Adjustable Bench
power rack (this will work for bench/squats)
mats to protect floor
some dumbbells up to 50 pounds maybe? I had 25s/30s/40s/50s in mine.
Lots and lots of plates. Try to get 500+ pounds if you can in a bulk deal.
No damn cardio equipment. You want cardio? Get a 24kg kettlebell and do some swings or go for a run.

Aube is correct in terms of long-term savings...

People who say he's wrong, you're wrong.

Also consider facts like:
-Gas
-Time
-Durability of equipment
-Length Aube will be training

So even if it takes... 15 years, Aube can make do of that.

Also, it doesnt even have to be $5000, that's just a high
end of the spectrum

time is money guys. Convenience is everything. A gym will always be better, but when schedules don't allow it and you live with your wife.. things are different.

A home gym and spending 3k really isn't shit to me (no e-brag)..but spending upwards of 5k isn't worth it.

Seems like enough, I've made due with way less when I am unable to get my gym.

Plus if you assume you can resell the equipment at some % of its original purchase price, you breakeven much sooner.

Don't forget buying your own home gym has resale value so in all reality that 5k may really only be 2k-3k at most after 5+ years of use

Buy 1 good barbell instead of 3 bad ones.

A eleiko OL barbell would probably be the best choice for variety.
And you have lifetime guarantee on it.

Problem is they cost around 2k...
