Don't use gel, this isn't the 90's

Use a paste, wax or pomade

thats not a widows peak, thats a receding hairline

i googled it. my mistake, you're right. i was thinking that receding hairline meant the front of your hair was moving back, not just the front sides. eg the guy on the right from seinfeld:

Exactly what I was thinking. Gel is fine if you're like 7-8 years old.

Paste is fine too, but wax works best

Gel is too sticky and it makes your hair go rock hard, people can both feel and see the look and it looks terrible. Plus once your hair reaches a certain length, no amount of gel will hold your hair in place (doesn't even have to be that long) while wax will keep your hair in pretty much any way you shape it (not final fantasy level though)

Not to mention it'll give the illusion of your hair "naturally" being raised/placed/shaped in the way it is, as if you woke up with your hair in that place/shape.

Example of natural looking trendy hair cut (wax + hair brush used)

So is your hair something like this?

Pretty much how I want to look as a 35-50 year old. History of baldness in the family so I might not make it to 35 with that much hair :(

Pretty simple, all you do is rub a bit in your palms and mix it around

You don't think so?

This kind of hairstyle is typically described as "looks like he just got out of bed and wiped his fingers back through his hair" - no product, no equipment

Even though it probably took 20 minutes and 3-4 different products + various tools

Meant to look effortless even though you've spend a ridiculous amount of time fixing it
