Potassium and L-Glutamine!!!

I love running. I've recently started myself earlier this year.

If you have an iPhone download the Nike run app I just started with it last week but it's pretty sweet. It has a training program that will get you worked into running 5k's without hurting yourself.

I ran alot more than I should have when I started. It led to some serious bad pains in places. You going to be sore, if your not your doing it wrong. But when you wake up and your knees are aching so bad you can barely walk because it feels like theyre gonna give out, you might have pushed a little too hard. Then you have to break for 2 weeks to recover... Just try to avoid that lol.

What really helps is the form. Don't run heel to toe. Keep your heels off the ground as much as you can. Your calves will get built up eventually. Landing on your heels will make your knees and back hurt.

*my $.02 only i could be wrong but im getting better all the time.

So I dont need to get protein or anything else after my run?

Thanks for the tip about form, never heard about that. I currently run with heels first... I think.. never thought about it lol gotta check it out if what you say is true - since I have an injury with my knee.

Run like crazy. I used to run everyday, was no problem because of my soccertraining (3 times a week, match on saturday, days off I ran). Sunday was a day off and it was working fine.

Then again, it was no strain on the muscles because I was used to it.

What is your goal with running? What do you want to achieve? Speed, agility, fat-loss, recreation, show off running shoes?

Few things off the top of my head from a marathon runner.

- I can't stress the importance of hydration especially for long runs. I have done races where I drank pretty minimal water the day before (not by choice) and then races where I drank probably ~35L of water over the stretch of the day prior. Let's just say I felt like shit on the dehydrated race and performed amazing where I drank the 35L... I didn't even need to stop at water stations.

- Don't run every day, it's brutal on the body unless you are specifically training for a race where you will usually run 6 days a week with a rest day. In my off-race times I like to mix in a lot of other sports: tennis, volleyball, football etc. They all bring something different to the table, tennis in particular has helped with my last stretch of the race sprints and just general agility.

- I find drinking dairy is a poor choice before a run as it upsets my stomach, try almond milk with your cereal, toast, etc. I find it a lot milder.

- Nutrition is so important. If you run frequently you can easily just start losing weight without realizing it. My training has been a bit out of hand the last 2 weeks and I've lost 10 lbs.

Anyway, take my advice with a grain of salt... I'm not a professional nutritionist or physiotherapist - but I do have a lot of years running experience.
