I don't want to cost my parents money if it's something little but I also don't want to be put off 3 weeks of football for something little. Do you have to give your coach the doctors note if he writes one? I'd prefer my coach not know in general lol

Your health is more important then your football team. If not you have bigger issues then your ankle.

I'd ice the ankle, take ibuprofen and add compression via ace wrap (or similar product). But like others suggested I highly recommend getting it checked out by someone.

Ankle sprains can take up to ~8 wks to heal depending how bad it is.

I'm sure if you talked to your coach about it he would tell you to get it checked out.

Take it easy for a week and see how it feels. I mean next to no loading (walking and unloaded mobility stuff), if the pain and/or instability still exist after a week of rest you should definitely get it looked at, could be a rupture rather than just stretched tissue. Keep in mind that just because the pain subsides doesn't mean you're 100 percent, you're still at risk to re injure for a few weeks after your incident so be careful. If the pain gets worse at all you should get it looked at. Massage your foot to improve circulation and clear lymph from the injury site. Don't ice unless pain is severe.

Yeah I know not to ice etc. I've read some of that stuff balla talked about. Anything that reduces inflammation slows healing.

Problem is idk if I can risk a week, I managed the rest of practice even conditioning tho it was like all right footed with extreme pain limping around.

We were in team offense when it happened and coach gave me about 30 seconds while I limped over and looked away to hide the pain. He let me stay in shotgun the next 10 plays but it didn't last long before he was having me do burpees because the play didn't go right because I wasn't quick enough to a spot when there was no way I could have been lol. I guess I'm venting but my coach just wanted me to be tough I guess. Maybe I should have let him know the pain a little better lol

To sum it up. Prostaglandins heal the tissue at site of inflammation, if you reduce inflammation, you also reduce the amount of prostaglandins.

You know your body much better than your coach, let him know when you've got a serious injury. I definitely understand that need to compete, but not worth risking being out for the rest of the season by not giving it some time to heal lol.

Hope it heals up quick for you brah.

Your coach isn't your slave master, if he's pushing you too hard you can tell him to lay off or you won't participate. If it comes down to the cost of proper mechanical function you have to decide whether you want to be able to move well in your later years or if you really wanna push it to win championships this year. Either way working your ankle to the point of an actual acute ligament tear isn't the way to go.

If you're injured you shouldn't be thinking about the team or the cost to your family. You're #1 in your own life and anyone who thinks you're being a fool for getting health care needs new priorities. It doesn't help your team if you don't recover. Ankle injuries can be devastating. I lost my shot at playing university (basket)ball when I tore a couple ligaments in my ankle--couldn't jog for 9 months and after physio I had lost 13 inches on my vert! I had to work like a mad dog to recover from that. So, chances are, your injury could be worse than it is, but trust me, get it checked out now.

+1: one of my buddies lost his shot at college football on the same type of thing. Let's hope it's a minor injury but the sooner your get it checked out, the faster you will recover.
