Honestly you'll be surprised at what the human body can do...don't limit yourself
If you slowly build your strength up then you'll have no problem getting passed your old max...start light and make sure your form is 100% I wouldn't even worry about maxing for a couple months just stick to a 5x5 or similar strength routine
