This "doing cardio doesn't do shit all for you" argument is pure bull crap.

The things that are going to help you lose weight are your test levels (among other things similar to that), your metabolism, and your calories in/calories out.

For a lot of people, cardio is going to help keep your test levels up, it's going to help you maintain a healthy diet (rather than a lower calorie constricted one), it's going to keep the chemical balance in your body in check, and you're going to end up  benefiting greatly from it.

I've tried cutting without cardio, and simply keeping my calories down. Does not work for me. I can keep my carb/fat/protein ratios in check, mineral and vitamin intake proper, water intake, all that proper. For me, doing cardio and increasing how much I eat accordingly (same technical calorie deficit) ends up being far more beneficial for me for fat loss. As far as muscle gains go, I can't argue any which way, but I'd argue that cardio is still worth doing (not in excess).

See thats interesting because on my cut cardio didn't help at all. I just ate at 500 deficit and I lost about 1-2 pounds a week. While maintaining most of muscle and strength.

What he's saying:

Burning more calories = fat loss
cardio burns more calories
cardio doesn't help fat loss

I don't see his logic at all.

i understand his logic just fine, and it boils down to how you interpret his question.

reminds me of an old joke i read. man goes to the doctor and reports various symptoms. the doctor conducts a physical, asks questions, etc. finally the doctor hands him a bottle of pills, instructing him to take 1 pill every hour with a full glass of water. a week later, the man comes back saying all the symptoms are gone. he asks the doctor what was wrong with him, and the doctor answers that he wasnt drinking enough water.

so did the pills cure the man? sort of.

Lightman's fatloss guide says that cardio doesn't really help for the reasons dirtyman stated
