always get twin tips, and k2, solomon and Head made pretty good entry level skis.

Ya getting twin tip center mounted for sure.

165-170 is good for someone who is 5 foot 8 right?

skiing all the way :)
i transitioned from waterskiing to downhill skiing a few years ago and ive been downhill skiing ever since
definitely go with a used pair if youre a beginner.. no sense in wasting that much money.. or getting someone to waste that much money for ya!

Well the way I look at it I would be better off buying a cheap $200 pair of skis then putting bindings on them and getting some nice boots. Because I will have the boots and bindings for a while and if I start going a lot ofter a few years I can always upgrade the boots.

My friend said I should just get youth bindings because they are much cheaper and I only weigh 135 lbs anyways.

You can never go wrong with Rossignol http://www.rossignol.com/

But just like lightclaw said, you'd be best off buying a used pair. Buying used you'll get a lot better quality skis for your money than you will buying new.

Comfortable boots is the most important thing of all in my opinion, and the brand doesn't really matter. I bought a really expensive pair, which were technically my correct size, but they didn't fit my feet perfectly, and resulted in a couple of really miserablale ski trips. I ended up having to buy a new pair.

And just like AF says, staying warm and comfortable truly is essential. If you don't have proper clothing, and get cold and wet you'll be miserable, and won't enjoy the experience.

I find that it typically makes the experience a little more enjoyable bringing a flask full of your favorite hard alcohol in the inside pocket of your jacket as well.

Need to try this. And I may buy used but skis are the one big thing I want for Christmas :)
