I have quite a weird question. Unsure if this is the right section.

We have had a influx of white tail spiders here. I've always believed they were poisonous. Then recently there was a news article about it, claiming that they aren't dangerous at all.

They say the swelling and infection comes from the open flesh wound caused by the bite, which I'm finding hard to believe. I've had open wounds on me before, none of which have ever gotten infected. But every case of these spider bites seems to get horrifically infected.

I've found lots around my house, but I'm really against mindlessly killing things unless I really have to.

So are these actually dangerous?

Well I hate all spiders in general. But if I'm aware that a certain spider will cause harm, I would like to know before going anywhere near it

All spiders are poisonous.

Except the non-poisonous ones.

rather, the non-toxic (not poisonous) ones dont deliver high enough concentrations of strong enough toxins to do anything to us as humans
