Why do the cyclers and powerlifters in hnf do it?

The whole point of training is to become better at what you do. Lifting and fitness, in general, are supposed to be a way of making your life better and improving your quality of life.

To the powerlifters.

You'll more than likely never have to push something more than 300 pounds or squat something more than 400 pounds in your life, so what is the point? I genuinely don't understand the point of powerlifting and why people do it.

To the cyclers.

Why? The ones that I know of in hnf already look fantastic, if not a little too much. What is the point when you're throwing in the chance to have negative effects on your quality of life?

This thread isn't to be a dick and hate on you guys. I'm genuinely curious, as my whole outlook on lifting is to fully benefit from what the human body is capable of doing with a combination of flexibility, strength, endurance, cardiorespiratory, etc. and both concepts basically just have tunnel vision on one aspect.

Is it really just the desire to be the strongest or biggest in the room and you don't care about anything else?

Strongmen want to become stronger than someone else or just stronger than they were yesterday. People who do cycles do it because they think it will benefit them in their goals. Why do anything in life?

Why work? Why pay bills? Why live? I mean that question can make anything seem pointless.

What I'm getting at is why would you do something that is useless in terms of functionality (I hate using that word, but it gets the idea across) for your daily life.

Taken out of context because Socrates didn't see the disgusting bodybuilders of today. Updated quote would end with "until you arent beautiful anymore" which is most pro body builders

Different goals m9

Your statement is an oxymoron. You say you are trying "to see what the human body is capable of" but at the same time you are content with mediocrity

You cant be great without specifying or honing your skills - you 'exercise' to feel good, thats nice and all. But why would anyone want to be great? whats the point? thats comes back to the why anything argument

For me, i want to get top 3 at Nationals, i want the national deadlift record,

why? so i can post here and argue with Lightman

Maybe some people just have clinically low T levels, no matter how much they eat or train just can't seem to build muscle and cycling benefits them.

curiosity for me is what started it.
then seeing the difference between natural and unnatural is fascinating and you have to experience it to understand it.
