well first, intracellular water volume is VERY tightly regulated by ion fluctuation predominantly, as well as protein concentrations and in muscle and liver tissue by glycogen as well. those are the main charged molecules that will contribute to water osmosis across the membrane of cells and will, in high or abnormal concentrations hold onto water inside cells. cant really do anything about that shit, but what you can control is how easily the kidneys will give up water and/or ions. consuming diuretics will force water out of the blood and into the nephron, usually by facilitating the excretion of an ion (sodium or potassium). conversely consuming salt will stimulate ADH which makes the kidneys retain more water in an effort to normalize sodium concentration in the blood.

^simplest way to look at it is the kidneys being a water bank. Drinking more allows for more water to be released

I see, so I deduce, lower sodium, increase water intake and ingesting diuretics like caffeine can help minimize overall water retention?
