Hi guys, i know you probably have this question all the time. I have tried looking and researching but there are so many conflicting arguments!

I am 24, never been to a gym, never lifted anything or even done a push up. I way 76 Kilos and am about 178 cm tall.

I currently live abroad and am about to go traveling again in a couple weeks. It is too awkward of a time to sign up for a gym but i want to do something beneficial which might make it easier for when i start. Will doing push ups every day until i sign up to the gym help me? Will i notice any muscle (even if it is the slightest)? Should i mix it up with sit ups and cardio etc? Like Monday- Pushups, Tuesday- sit ups, Wednesday - Cardio? I am not very strong and can probably do like 3 push ups :/

With my push ups should i do as many as i can until collapse a few times a day or sets?

Any advice would be great, i am a little self conscious about going to the gym and i think doing some push ups and stuff in the mean time will help me break through that barrier!

Cheers guys

If you're starting from ground zero, anything will be beneficial.

Starting with push ups is a good way to go. Try experimenting with different widths, and do as many as you can each day, trying to beat your last goal.

Sit ups are okay, but they are hard on the back. Try doing leg raises and such. Laying on your back, lift your legs straight up in the air and down, slow and controlled.

Try looking into the "P90X" program, that doesn't require any gym at all, and can be done pretty much anywhere. It's a good place to start

Don't be self conscious about going to a gym, people are generally very friendly in gyms. I'm travelling currently and the best way to gym is with free trials, they offer 1-10 day free trials at most gyms, and I just put down fake info.

Thanks mate will do!

Should i do as many pushups as i can whenever i have the chance to throughout the day or save 1 hour of my day just to do push ups? For example do as many as i can and then rest until i feel i can do the same amount etc?

well unless you have equipment, you cant properly train your back or legs, so doing pushups alone is pretty unbalanced

it'll do on the short term, but to really get into shape and speed up progress, try to get into a gym

if u have a couple weeks before u leave, visit a gym and ask them if they offer a monthly package or something, you'll make faster progress and get accustomed to going to the gym

I think the difference would be arbitrary. If you can only do body weight stuff and you're looking to cut weight maybe do some sort of army workout? Try google/YouTube something along the lines of "getting fit for basic training." It'll get you past 3 push-ups

honestly if you can't do a gym, id look up p90x. Best over all starting routine. Get's you used to working out 40+ minutes, and used to the basics

But p90x is straight endurance training and yeah it's great to get started since it's "planned and stuff" and op will stick to something. However If you can't get past 3 pushups i would aim for strength and size to get any muscle.

Best thing about p90 is that it doesn't matter if you can do 1 pushup or 100. You do it at your own pace and just go longer, the better you get.

OP needs that kind of structure to guide him on the right starting path.. none of this random, pushups when you can for as much as you can, crap
