Cutting carbs instead of protein or fat is better imo

Weight loss comes down to calories in vs calories out, yes. As long as you are in a deficit, you will lose weight (even without working out). Depending on how much of a deficit you are in, your training, and your diet, will effect how much of your weight loss is fat and how much is muscle. You do not need to cut carbs to lose weight. Most people see a quick loss of weight with cutting carbs due to glycogen storages not being replenished.

i got the calories in < calories out part, and training fairly often part but it's my diet i'm trying to figure out to cut down on body fat %
i'm ok with cutting down on carbs but it needs to be sustainable, not something i can only do temporarily - what source of carbs should i be looking for that helps me feel full? right now i'm relying on oatmeal breakfast, something with rice/chicken at lunch and sweet potatoes/chicken/mushroomeggwhiteomlette for dinner

Meat and vegetables cooked with a complimentary sauce, herbs or spices works fine for me. I've cut most carbs out - although I'm not on a diet and still indulge occasionally.

For breakfast, it's fruit, yoghurt and or oats.

What works for me is a low carb mid/high fat diet (Good fats like avacado etc)

Aim for 50-75 carbs a day with 80-100 grams of high quality fats; Avacado, olive oil etc

You didn't specify your height, weight, or goals so I can't go into speciifcs

Just my 2 cents

I trimmed 3% body fat using this process in 24 days. Doesn't seem like much but it is!

Hope you get more useful information :)

Protein and Unsaturated fats and fibers will make you feel full. When cutting, I go for around 6g fat, 215g protein, 125g carbs. If I throw in cardio, my carbs will go up.
I tend to eat most of my carbs first thing in the morning or before working out.

Complex carbs such as wheat pasta will make you feel more full.

Just keep track of your macros[calories], exercise, and you will lose fat. If you don't, you probably have to lower the calories.
