With my body clock atm I only start feeling tired around 4am. Pretty common for teens and young 20 somethings I know, but if I go to bed 4am one night, the night after I can't go to bed preceding that time. The delicate nature of my sleeping means that going out one night completely throws me off and can turn my pattern upside down. I think it's caused me to lose a bit of weight as I've missed the local gym's opening times a lot and as a result I haven't paid as much attention to eating as I would have otherwise.

I previously just thought I could turn my pattern around normally without sleeping pills or melatonin to induce tiredness, but I can't seem to do it. The possibility of becoming dependent on them made me not want to consider it, but I'm at the point now where I don't really care. Can anyone recommend specific products of melatonin etc on amazon that I can order? (Has to be available/legal in the UK)

My body adapts to sleeping less, rather than getting progressively more tired each night as I sleep less. That's one of the main issues.

Plus, that doesn't work on the nights where I can't even sleep at 4am (can go to 6am 7am etc... for example it's 6.30am right now). Just leaves me way too tired the next day either to the point where I sleep in longer and make it even worse, or I get up and crash 5-6 hours later.

get up and power through the day, then try to go to bed before midnight

seems like the problem is in your sleeping habit and not in your endoc system tbh, if you genuinely think youve tried all that you could, then try taking melatonin every day at the same time maybe 30 min before bed, but its only effective if you maintain a regular sleep schedule

melatonin will help to ease a change in your internal clock, so you'll be able to shift into a better sleep routine. it wont be a dependance thing unless you let it be, you take it during your transition and maybe for a week after

is 5 htp a viable substitute and does it work the same? melatonin is only available on prescription in the UK

stay up past 4am leading into one of your days off (I wouldnt do this on a day you have to work/go to school if you do since youll be tired all day) and stay up for the day. crash at like 7pm. wake up at like 5 am. stick with it. this is what i used to do when i had to jump from 1st shifts to 3rd shifts.

stay up 3 hours later each day until reset. I went to a sleep professional and he told me to do that and it actually worked but kind of by accident for me because day 3 i was like fuck this i can't stay up til 3pm and crashed in the middle of it then woke up at 7am the next day (or 2 days lateR? doubtful idr cuz thats like 48 hours of sleep - it felt like it at least).

Then never go out late at night ever again lol. half kidding but part of fixing your thing is also to keep the pattern the same during the weekend

because I can still get melatonin on prescription, but because of easiness if there was something I could just order online like 5 HTP then that would be preferable.
